Tauranga Launch - Wayne Hawkins
Wayne Hawkins, Constitutional Affairs spokesman
Hans Laven Launch, Tauranga, 1 March 2008
Red Square, Tauranga
Good morning fellow citizens
My name is Wayne Hawkins
I am the Constitutional Affairs spokesman for the Republic of New Zealand Party
I am here this morning to help launch the campaign of my good friend and fellow Republican Hans Laven
Hans Laven is a Tauranga boy – he was raised here and went through Tauranga Boys College
Hans is OUR candidate for Tauranga
It’s Hans Laven, Republic of New Zealand Party for Tauranga
When you go to the polls and do your Electorate vote you need to tick the box alongside Hans Laven
When you do your Party vote you need to tick the box alongside The Republic of New Zealand Party.
It is an honour to be here to support Hans at the launch of his campaign.
Hans Laven believes in proper constitutional government based on the proposition that
The people’s will is law
Not like the Prime Minister who passes legislation to wipe away Labour’s breaches of electoral law and the Electoral Finance Act, which will silence many interest groups in election year.
The fact of the matter is that we won’t have proper democracy in this country until we have a written constitution.
Samoa has one
Where’s ours?
Hans Laven believes in Direct Democracy
Binding National Referenda
Binding Local Initiatives
Do you remember Sue Bradford’s anti-smacking bill.
80 per cent of you said no
So what did parliament do? They passed it any way.
We promise you that as soon as we gain a position of influence, we will have a referendum on this question and if you say you don’t want this legislation we will repeal it.
Han Laven believes in restoring the family in New Zealand and supporting real fathering.
Men have been marginalised during 9 years of Labour Government through the repressive
Family Court
Child Support Regime
Hans Laven believes in a sensible economic system.
We call it Centrenomics
It’s about
Preserving our National Assets
Working together better – real co-operation between employers and workers
A tax remix to make our tax system fairer
Real incentives for business owners who create real jobs
Hans Laven believes in sensible environmental policies based on sustainable practices
We’re not like the Greens who are full of wonderful ideas but don’t have the guts to back them.
We will put resources into trying out new ideas
We will move this country away from dependence on the Oil Empire.
We will embrace technologies that are carbon neutral and sustainable.
Hans Laven believes in the genuine reconciliation of the Treaty
The Republic of New Zealand Party is committed to reconciling Treaty grievances on a fair and final basis se we can all move forward together in the same waka.
Hans Laven believes in a New Start for New Zealand with our 5 Ways Forward programme.
A written constitution – where all will be regarded as equal before the law
Direct Democracy – Binding National Referenda – Binding Local Initiatives
The Family Restored – We’re going to bring Dad back into the family
Centrenomics – working together better
Greenpak – environmental policies you can believe in
Hans will be talking with you about 5 Ways Forward during his campaign
We’ll be distributing brochures today on 5 Ways Forward
Please take one and have a look
The Republic of New Zealand Party has a pledge
It’s not like Helen’s pledge, which we as taxpayers have to pay for
No, our pledge doesn’t cost taxpayers a cent
Here’s our pledge
First, a cut in pay for MPs – no more than twice the average wage
Cut in Perks – travel and other expenses limited to the period an MP is an MP
Electoral Reform – one electoral roll – no ethnic seats – we all vote together
A cut in seats to 93 based on one MP per 45,000 people
We will abolish the List
Cut out corruption
We’ll review party spending of taxpayer money
Repeal the Electoral Finance Act
And Helen Clark’s retrospective electoral law
Come on Tauranga, it’s time to make a New Start
It’s time to get in behind your local boy Hans Laven.
He’ll work for you and with you to make New Zealand a better place with 5 Ways Forward.
Thank you
