Mt Albert Launch - Wayne Hawkins
By Wayne Hawkins, Constitutional Affairs Spokesman
At the launch of Dave Llewell’s candidacy for Mt Albert
Sandringham Road, Auckland
23 February 2008
Good morning fellow citizens.
My name is Wayne Hawkins. I am the constitutional affairs spokesman for The Republic of New Zealand Party.
I am here this morning to help launch the campaign of my good friend and fellow republican Dave Llewell.
Dave Llewell is our candidate for Mt Albert.
It’s Dave Llewell, Republic of New Zealand Party for Mt Albert.
Dave Llewell is a good working man and a father.
He knows what it’s like to struggle
Not like the lady in the office down the road who’s had a silver spoon in her mouth all her life.
She came straight from university into politics and then the Prime Ministership
She’s never had to work a day in a warehouse or a factory.
She’s never had to worry about bills and how to make payment.
Dave Llewell knows about these things, he knows what you are going through, because he’s been through them himself
Dave Llewell is a good working man
Dave Llewell believes in proper constitutional government based on the proposition that
The people’s will is law
Unlike the lady in the office there, the Prime Minister, she doesn’t seem to believe in any form of constitutional government
She passed an act to wipe away a blatant breach of electoral law
She sent out pledges, political propaganda for her party and made the taxpayers pay and now she’s passed legislation to make the so-called pledge legal.
She’s going to do her campaigning using taxpayers’ money.
What we need in this country and Dave Llewell will be talking to you about this, is a proper written constitution
Samoa has one, where’s ours
Dave Llewell believes in Direct Democracy
Binding National Referenda
Binding Local Initiatives
Remember Sue Bradford’s amendment to the Crimes Act, the anti smacking bill?
Eighty per cent of you said you didn’t want it.
So what did the parliamentarians do? They passed it against your wishes.
That bill should have gone to a binding National Referendum.
You should have a chance to have your say.
If we had been in power we would have done that, and your decision would have been binding.
We promise you this. As soon as we gain a position of influence we will press for a binding national referendum on Sue Bradford’s anti-smacking law.
Dave Llewell believes in restoring the family in New Zealand and supporting real fathering
Men have been marginalised during nine years of Labour Government through the repressive
Family Court and Child Support Regime
Dave Llewell believes in a sensible economic system
We call it Centrenomics
It’s about
Preserving our National Assets
Real co-operation between employers and workers
A tax remix to make our tax system fair
Real incentives for business owners who create real jobs
Dave Llewell believes in sensible environmental policies based on sustainable practices
We’re not like the Greens who are all talk and no do
Dave Llewell believes in a New Start for New Zealand with our 5 Ways Forward programme
A Constitution
Direct Democracy
Family Restored
Centrenomics
Greenpak, an environmental policy you can believe in
Dave will be talking to you about 5 Ways Forward during the campaign
We have a brochure outlining the 5 Ways Forward campaign
Dave will be sharing that with you
Here at The Republic of New Zealand Party we’re taking a new start for New Zealand seriously
And we have a pledge
Our pledge is a genuine pledge, not like Helen Clark who used taxpayers money to send out hers
No no we’re offering you our pledge using our own resources
Here’s our pledge
1 A cut in pay for MPs – we will take only twice the average wage
2 A cut in perks – travel expenses and other expenses that go with being an MP will be available only during the term of office.
3. A cut in seats – 1 MP per electorate and I MP per 45,000 people
We’ll end up with around about 93 seats.
4 We want to cut out corruption – we want to review party spending of taxpayer money
We don’t like a system where Helen Clark can send out pledge cards using taxpayers’ money
And pretend that it’s government business
Shame on you Helen Clark, it’s a lie and you’re doing your electioneering using taxpayers’ money.
You’re a sham and that’s why you’ve got to go.
We will repeal the Election Finance Act. How dare she stop people in this country from expressing their opinions and using their own money if they so chose
And we’ll repeal the retrospective electoral legislation, which says that the Labour Party never committed an offence
But they did. They overspent by hundreds of thousands of dollars and then they wiped it away with a piece of legislation saying, no no we never did it.
Well you did do it, we’re going to repeal that legislation, and the offence will stand.
Ladies and Gentlemen, we’re the only party in New Zealand that offers real democracy
Democracy the way it should be
I want you to get in behind Dave Llewell, he’s a good man, a working man.
He’ll work for you in Mt Albert
Thank you
