Jack Gielen, Candidate for Hamilton East and Party spokesman on Mental Health

Dave Llewell launch, Mt Albert, Sandringham Road, 23 February 2008.

Good morning everybody, wonderful to be here. I have the privilege to be representing the Republican Movement

I am the Party’s candidate for Hamilton East. I stood in the National Elections three years ago, also stood in the local body elections and I am the spokesman for Mental Health and Suicide Prevention

As spokesperson for Mental Health and Suicide Prevention, I would like to declare the following statements.

Helen Clark has been denying freedom of speech, bringing in the anti terror law which will shut down freedom of speech in this country also the Electoral Finance Act which is a real sham.

She’s denied the rights of biological parents, bringing in the anti smacking bill, terrorising our families in this country

Labour has turned their backs on suicide statistics.

What we need is crisis intervention, safe houses. There is also a major under class being created with an increasing number of homeless on the streets.

There are 540 suicides a year. This is far too high. We see family break up, father suicide and family destruction

What we need to see in this country are crisis intervention centres and safe homes

We also need to see Men’s Refuge Centres so that marginalised men on the streets, men who are being rejected can go into these homes and we can empower these men to change.

We need better health care services, there are long waiting lists and these long-term damaging effects to families and New Zealand citizens have gone on for too long

I believe that the Republicans have the answer with a new constitution, equal and human rights before the law, to create equality for all people.
We are now a multi cultural nation and we must move on together with one vision and one hope united.

We need to have direct democracy put in place so that what the people want can be put in place in this nation

We need family restoration, Centrenomics, employers and employees working together and creating business incentives for New Zealanders.

We need Kiwi green to look after our environment

So I count it as a privilege to be representing suicide prevention. Having put in place a crisis help line service, I deal with one person who is suicidal every week.

We need a buddy support process and safe places for those people who are suicidal, but I long to see open access so that people who have problems in their own hearts and people who need counselling can get counselling and can be heard instead of stifling people .

We must allow people to bring out their angst, their pain, their hurt and we must create healthier communities here in New Zealand

Thank you very much for the privilege of being able to share these thoughts with you and don’t forget, Vote Wise, Vote Republican

The New Zealand Republicans, a new and rising political force in New Zealand.

Thank you very much
