Mt Albert Launch - Dave Llewell
Dave Llewell launches his campaign for Mt Albert
23 February 2008, Sandringham Road
Today, with great pleasure, I am launching my campaign as the Republic of New Zealand Party candidate for Mt. Albert.
Yes Helen Clark, I am here, I am willing, I am not afraid to take you on in your own electorate.
A little bit about me. I am a construction worker. I have been in this line of work most of my life, 32 years in the heavy construction trade.
I have a feel for what the working man on the street needs to provide for his family and what real people are about.
We formed this party because men such as me and other families are struggling to provide for their children.
We are here today in front of Helen’s office to let her know that we are campaigning against the Labour Government and that it is time for her to go.
She has reached her use by date.
We need to reduce the problems that people are facing. We need to make sure there is work, to stop the mass migration of people leaving New Zealand. We need to set up a system whereby we can keep those people in New Zealand, that there can be the jobs here so the companies are not moving off shore. If companies have to go offshore to make profit, there’s something wrong. We need to look into that and get something put into place.
The family court system we have here in New Zealand is letting families down. We see families separating. There should be encouragement to people to keep the family together.
It is very difficult to live in New Zealand. The sky rocketing cost of dairy products and petrol is making it very difficult for families. We need to look into the situation and see how we can help these families to survive.
Many may say why would you want to enter politics. This system of government is not working. Families are suffering under ridiculous laws that are being passed with no regard for public opinion. You may have some of these in mind, the anti-smacking bill etc.
The National Party may regain power but they will not change the situation because they are so much like the Labour Party now. The two parties seemed to have merged in policy. They’ve been in power before. We all know their record. It’s a bit like jumping from the pan to the fire. People are calling for change, just as they did in the USA and Australia. To vote National will be a vote for very little change.
We are asking you to vote for real change. We want Republicans in the House to hold back MPs who vote for laws that have very little public support.
We need to look at our health system. Our top child doctor recently moved off shore. The hospital waiting lists are long because we have a shortage of health professionals. We can’t have that. We need a decent health system for all New Zealanders.
Accountability is important in all government departments. Transparency is a word that is often bandied about, but we need to see it happening.
How will the Republicans be any different? When we get into the House of Representatives we will not be seat warmers, I promise you that.
We will base our policies on our 5 Ways Forward campaign.
A constitution that brings back equal rights in law. There’ll be no separate system for one group and another.
Direct Democracy, Democracy the way it should be. People of the land will have their say where referenda will be acted on.
Centrenomics, a better system where we work together to provide for New Zealanders and boost our economy
Greenpak, sensible environmental policies aimed at sustainable growth. We intend to look at windmills, wave power and other systems to generate energy without harming the environment.
We are the only party that offers New Zealand a New Start.
We need to vote wise, vote for the republican party.
Thank you
