Election Under Protest.
New Zealand’s new election legislation is a sad display of political immaturity from a small group of self serving despots who are an affront to our political integrity and an embarrassment to our country says Republicans leader Kerry Bevin.
This is marginal legislation, drawn up without reasonable consultation with other political parties, against the advice of significant voices, including our human rights commission and legal institutions. It has been passed in the face of informed public opposition and without reasonable public consultation.
With the election period effectively starting today, this legislation draws our country into an onerous election period with unnecessary political uncertainty.
“We do not support this legislation or the manner in which it has been promulgated and enter this election under protest,” says Mr Bevin.
