Democracy the way it should be!

United Nations Indigenous Rights Stance - shameful.

Posted in Media Statements by Bevan Berg Friday September 14, 2007

“There is nothing Red Letter about today for NZ.  It is just another wake
up call, reminding us all, to get past our history, and get on with
defining our citizenship, not supporting separatism and division,”
said Bevan Berg, on behalf on the Republic of NZ Party.

“A sweeping declaration of rights for indigenous peoples passed today
by the UN General Assembly is more unwarranted meddling in the
affairs of individual countries” he added.

It is not the first time a one size fits all declaration from the United
Nations has caused unnecessary disruption around the world,
and if there was one ounce of civil war as a consequence of it,
I could just see the UN accepting responsibility for the unrest.

If the 270 million people this declaration supposedly protects created a
much greater number of refugees heading to other developed countries
there would be wails of discontent from the 147 countries that voted
for it.

“The irony here is that we don’t need interference in our countries
affairs by UN declaration, anymore than we need interference in family
affairs by our own meddling Nanny State,” said Berg
