The closure of our serious fraud office at this time is unacceptable says police Spokesman Bevan Berg.

At this time in our economic cycle we are more likely to see Serious Fraud and we are starting to see that now with the recent failure of 10 Finance companies, and 6 suspended real estate agents. 

We should not under estimate the seriousness of organised crime, but we should also not confuse these issues.  The proposed closure of the SFO is another indiscretion by a failing Government.  
 
If there is a need for a specialized organised crime unit in our police department, that should not come at the expense of the SFO.  

“There is not much point having a multi billion dollar surplus if we cannot protect our financial integrity,” says Berg.
