The Family Court should be abolished because it is a failure, according to Jim Bagnall, Children and Family spokesperson for the Republic of New Zealand Party (The Republicans).

Mr Bagnall has participated in recent demonstrations outside family lawyers’ houses. He said he had been doing this because family lawyers are encouraging false allegations of abuse in the Family Court.

“They can do this with impunity because there is no requirement for proof in the Court,” he said.

He claimed lawyers are making thousands from alienating children from fathers. Judges are failing to protect our children. Some of them have been abducted overseas.

“Far too many children do not see their fathers. This is family devastation.”

Mr Bagnall said the Republicans would replace the Family Court with a Mediation Service that had legal power. Separated parents would be bound to negotiate an agreement for the care of their children.

“Equal parenting rights would be the basis for child support in the best interests of the child,” Mr Bagnall said
